What’s this about the Concert Window Series?
Over the last few months Máirtín has been giving live concerts from his home and they have gone down grand altogether. But, with some contemplation he has decided to make a right go of it and set up a monthly concert series. The last Thursday of every month, beginning in February, there will be a half hour (or so) live webshow which will include 2 unrecorded songs. Over ten months that is 20 songs and you will pick the Top Ten. What? Yes, each month they will be up for a vote by you (if you hear them) and those who watched the show. The hope is to build a new repertoire and based upon your input create a new album for 2015!! What do you think of that? An album which you can be a part of from start to finish sounds amazing to all of us here at Máirtín Music.
The shows are set at 7.30pm Minnesota time which is in the Central time zone. If you are having difficulty wrapping your head around what time is what, this great website will convert the time zone for you click here
The Concert Window Series are PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT shows where you can make requests in a chat box and even give tips. Most requests will be taken via Facebook event pages during the week leading up to the show.
The take is spilt between Máirtin and Concert Window. They get 1/3 and Máirtín gets 2/3 of all the money you give. You don’t have to pay for petrol or diesel even (that’s gas, says he), parking or buy a drink!! What a deal!! Check in early especially if it is your first log in as it may take 10 minutes to chose a username etc. (there is an obvious lyric I could insert here)

The concert is a ‘pay as much or as little as you like’ event. You will need to create an account withConcert Window, make a Login name etc. so turn up for the show ten minutes early to make sure you get on in time or do it now and be ready to Roll come Sunday. Last time was great craic but it was too late in the night for the people of Ireland. This one is especially for Rebels everywhere who haven’t seen me in ages. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be a part of Cork Rebel Week while living so far away.

Concert Window On-web Performance
Thursday September 19th: Carrigaline Native, Máirtín de Cógáin will be doing an online concert at 9pm EDT /8pm CDT or 2am Cork time (Thursday night / Friday morning). A new company in the US called Concert Window has asked Máirtín to participate in the ‘Concert Window OPEN series’. It will be a 30 minute concert streamed live to the World Wide Web and not recorded for later showings. If you wish to see Máirtín in the comfort of your own home check out www.MairtinMusic.com for all the details. The concert is a ‘pay what you can’ event and you will need to create an account so turn up for the show ten minutes early to make sure you get a seat. He will be taking requests too and answering questions as the night progresses. ‘It hard to get to play in everywhere,’ says Máirtín, ‘ but this is a powerful tool for people to see you live and interact with you in real time.’
The show will start at 8:30pm EDT/7:30pm CST.

“The Irish storyteller, singer and actor Mairtin de COGAIN (vocals, bodhran) sent, together with Brian Miller (guitar, bouzouki, Shruti Box), Norah Rendell (flute, whistles, vocals) and guest fiddler Nathan Gourley greetings from his home town, was added Live in St. Paul, Minnesota.”
“Mairtin sings cover versions, traditional and original songs, telling his stories and plays with the band tunes fleet. There is “The Star of Sunday’s Well”, a text from the 19th Century by William B. Guiney, a poet from Cork; Mairtin sings the poem A Capella for Shruti Box. “Jiggin ‘around Cork” is a set of traditional jigs from Cork, performed brilliantly with tin whistle, bouzouki, fiddle and bodhran. Then he tells the audience says “How to make proper tea”, a real laugh. Norah, Mairtin and the audience sing “Johnny go boating”, as you would most like to sing myself, and Norah charmed with the beautiful guitar ballad “The Rose of Coburg Street.” The Irish text of “Grá dá raibh” comes from Mairtin, the music he wrote with The Fuchsia Band, a rhythmic folk song. Another highlight is the up-beat set of “Reel Cork like,” Fiddling with great, bouzouki / bodhran rhythm and the rich sound of the Irish flute.”

Praise ‘Echoes’ for “From Cork with Love”

Dan Neely of the Irish Echo reviewed Máirtín’s new DVD travelogue in the Feb 2013 issue, alongside the great Donie Carroll’s second recording, ‘Divil of a Noise’ (up Cork!). Both reviews are available in print or in this PDF.
Three years in the making, this project demonstrates Máirtín’s engaging character and entertaining performance style in a musical travelogue of his Ireland home. It’s an exciting new approach to the music’s presentation from a younger U.S.-based artist.
Made possible by a successfully funded Kickstarter project, each of the DVD’s 14 chapters finds Máirtín exploring a different facet of Cork’s history and culture. Máirtín’s own music brings depth to each chapter, but many of them include brilliant performances from high profile guests, including John Spillane, Jimmy Crowley, Matt Cranitch & Jackie Daly and Máirtín’s father Barry Cogan. These contribute greatly to the finished product.
The DVD is professionally shot and comprises footage taken in Ireland and in St. Paul, Minn. For the material shot in Ireland (and for the feature’s editing), Máirtín called on cameraman and filmmaker Paschal Cassidy of Red Shoe Productions. Cassidy has a stellar reputation in the trad scene. He got his start working for Cork’s Forefront Productions as the cameraman for RTÉ’s annual Fleadh program. Over the years, however, he’s been behind several important programs on TG4, including “Geantraí,” “Gradam Ceoil” and “Ceol Ar An Imeall.”
Spliced into the travel narrative is concert footage shot at the Celtic Junction in St. Paul, Minnesota by Zach Nicholas, which features Máirtín playing live with Bua’s Brian Miller, the Outside Track’s Norah Rendell and the Doon Céilí Bandn’s Nathan Gourley. The audio from this concert was recorded and used for Máirtín’s 2010 album also called “From Cork With Love,” but it is used here to bring musical depth to Máirtín’s various rambles. The DVD also includes three bonus tracks, all of which come from this live footage.
Ultimately, this is a really fun and entertaining project that lets Máirtín’s unique brand of humor and enthusiasm really shine.

I flew over to Cork and joined by the great team of Red SHoe Productions captured what we could in the time allotted. We have all the filming done and it’s up to the editor now to work his magic. May Fame
May has come and welcomed in the bright half of the year (in the Northern hemisphere anyhow) and on the 1st of May I went and before the sun rose in the morning rolled in the May Morning Dew. Many songs have this phrase used and I have often been asked about it, so, for the first time I went and did it myself, washing my face in the fresh dew of Summer. It was great, 5.59am on a brisk Minnesota morning. You should try it for yourself next year! Here is a few links to get you in tune with what I am say if you are totally lost, like.
